culpeper police officer now in the hands of a jury. daniel harmon-wright is charged with murdering an unarmed woman in a church parking lot. >> he shot patricia cook after she trapped his arm in the window of her car and dragged him. peggy fox is in the courtroom. any idea what the jury may come up with from all this? >> i tell you this, it all comes down to credibility. when daniel harmon-wright took the stand, he was believable. the jury has to decide whether they believe daniel harmon- wright saw patricia cook as a threat that he needed to take out or whether they think he made it all up just to cover up what really happened. >> it is a malicious and unlawful killing, which means it's murder. >> special prosecutor called daniel harmon-wright's claim of self-defense an unbelievable fairy tale. ten inconsistencies between what harmon-wright said on the witness stand friday and what he said in a video taped interview last year, just two hours after he killed patricia cook. >> how can you justify seven shots, several in the back of an unarmed woman in a car? that makes no sense to me.

trial involving a former culpeper virginia police officer. 32-year-old daniel harmon- wright's fate will be decided by a jury of his peers who began deliberations today. fox 5's lauren demarco was in court with the latest on the case now. >> the jury adjourns before reaching a decision. the jurors deliberated since just after 2:00 this afternoon following closing arguments. the decision before them, whether former town of culpeper police officer daniel harmon- wright shot a 54-year-old woman with intent to kill or whether he used his weapon as an act of self-defense and to protect the public. on februar9th, 2012, patricia cook was sitting in her car in a lot at epiphany catholic school. she refused to leave even when confronted by a school administrator. so then officer daniel harmon- wright was called into check on a suspicious vehicle. when he arrived, cook said she was waiting for a friend. she displayed her driver's license but apparently declined to hand it over to him. harmon-wright testified he reached for it but she rolled up her window, trapped his hand and began to drive.

daniel harmon-wright of voluntary manslaughter. here's the video from late this afternoon. the 33-year-old cuffed his bond revoked after the conviction. courtroom observers like john hanrahan says he put his hands over his face as the verdict was read. his wife burst into tears. this all happened last february. harmon-wright responded to a call about a suspicious person in a parking lot. he encountered patricia cook. the former officer said there was a dispute and then she accelerated her jeep and rolled up her window on his arm and then dragged him, trying to kill him. harmon-wright opened fire and shot cook seven times. the late patricia cook's brother is pleased with the outcome. >> it allows for healing. it allows for change. i don't want his life. >> we can't say for sure how the jury arrived, but the prosecution pointed out inconsistencies with his story and even the fact that patricia cook's car window that trapped the arm was a manual rollup, not electric. harmon-wright was found guilty on two counts of firing into an occupied vehicle. he is facing up to 25 years in prison. >>>

trip to the parking lot where daniel harmon-wright shot and killed 54-year-old patricia ann cook nearly a year ago. in the afternoon harmon-wright took the witness stand and in a tearful emotional testimony said he only shot in self-defense. after getting a call about a suspicious person in the lot harmon-wright said he approached the jeep of patricia ann cook who he said was acting aloof, odd and off-putting. after asking for her license repeatedly he said he reached inside and tried to grab it from her hand. that is when he said she closed the window on his arm and accelerated. he said he yelled stop, stop stop, what are you doing. she then screamed, no, no, no, i'm not going to. he said he warned her three times before opening fire with two shots but she kept driving so he followed with five more shots seconds later. durke cross examination the prosecutor asked heuplim your intent was to shoot to kill, wasn't it to which he responded, my intent was to eliminate the threat to the public. harmon-wright closed by saying i wish it had not happened but it did and i can't take it ba
